I have a deep confession for you all. I hate the month of December for its celebration of Christmas. I hate how everyone has to be happy and jolly all the time and if you’re not it’s frowned upon. I also don’t like how commercial it is – which working some seasonal hours this year definitely brings home more how consumer crazy things are. On top of that, my mom and I always seem to be stuck cooking family dinner on the big day and we don’t really get to sit back, enjoy and relax. I can’t stand listening to the same uber cheery songs for an entire month. My favorite Christmases have been the ones where my parents, sister and I have gone somewhere tropical for the holiday.
With that said, I will apologize in advance for my cynicism and grumpiness in advance. #imagrinch #thegrinchismyspiritanimal
That doesn’t mean that I absolutely hate Christmas completely. I do like watching the really cheesy, but highly entertaining, Hallmark movies (Holiday in Handcuffs and Borrowed Hearts for the win!), the TV show classics (like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – clay animation version and the original Grinch) and I do enjoy looking at all the gorgeous Christmas lights.
As of right now, I am going to try to be upbeat more than usual about this wonderful month. So, here is what I was thinking about posting this month:
- NaNoWriMo and building your writing dreams.
- Christmas – the traditions behind it/why we celebrate it.
- Hanukah – I want to learn more about and thought I’d share.
- I will do a New Years’ Eve reflection.
- Editing your work.
That’s what I have for you this week and for the rest of the month.
Until next week!
