VERVE BOOKS: Now Accepting Manuscript Submissions

***Please note, there has been an uptick in publishers that are not accepting unagented submissions. Too many presses and publishers are getting mass submissions that do not fit their catalogs. DO NOT submit your work if it doesn’t fit the publisher’s guidelines.

VERVE BOOKS is the new digital-first imprint of No Exit Press, one of the top UK-based mystery publishers. No Exit Press is not open to direct submissions, but their imprint is.

Their imprint is new and doesn’t have a track record for you to browse through to get a feel for what they like. However, it is easy to get a feel for the parent company.

No Exit Press won the CWA Dagger, Best Crime and Mystery Publisher award in 2019. To learn more about No Exit, please go here.

VERVE BOOKS will focus on publishing character-driven stories in the crime, thriller, and commercial fiction genres. Here’s what their editor has to say about what they’re looking for:

We are looking for great stories in the crime, thriller, and commercial fiction genres with strong narrative voices, well-drawn characters, and page-turning plots.

They offer advances, personal marketing plans, and professional editing in return for submitting your manuscript into them.

And in case you didn’t know, digital-first means the book will only be in print via print-on-demand services.

How to Submit to VERVE BOOKS

They don’t have much to go on in terms of guidelines for you to follow or much of a website. But they do ask for you to submit your full manuscript through their submissions portal.

In addition to your manuscript, they ask you to provide them with a brief book synopsis and a bio. Please don’t forget to go over their submission guidelines before sending your work to them.

To learn more, visit their website here.

Good luck to all of you who choose to submit. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you.

And if you are accepted, please let me know! I’d love to read your work and pass it along to a friend.

Stay safe, everyone.

Until next time.

Cheers,

Danielle

      1. It could be the basis of a mystery/thriller.
“Once you’re a member of this publishing house, there’s no getting out.”
An aspiring author comes to work for them, and discovers a horrible family secret – – In wartime, they were spies, who used a small publishing office to pass secrets to enemy agents.
After the war, they remained undiscovered, and the legitimate side of their business grew.

      2. Haha. That would be hilarious! I love the idea of that. I don’t know if that would qualify as a horrible family secret (I find that more heroic), but it’s a good idea! 🙂
