THINK Journal Publishing Opportunity

***Please note, there has been an uptick in publishers that are not accepting unagented submissions. Too many presses and publishers are getting mass submissions that do not fit their catalogs. DO NOT submit your work if it doesn’t fit the publisher’s guidelines.

THINK Journal is Western Colorado University’s print journal. The journal primarily publishes poetry, but they also accept fiction, creative nonfiction, and screenwriting.

And when it comes to poetry, they like poems that demonstrate awareness of craft. They like metrical poetry, meaningful rhymes, and inventive forms. They also publish free verse that’s clearly and thoughtfully arranged. To get a sense of their style, you can read excerpts from the print journal online.

Since 2008, THINK Journal has been published twice a year in print. In recent years, the journal has expanded to include all the genres studied in Western’s MA and MFA in Creative Writing programs. In addition to poetry, they publish popular fiction and creative nonfiction—especially nature writing—and writing for film and television.

They also publish essays on various literary topics: the art and history of poetry, poetry and prose analysis, film and television, opera, and publishing.

They also accept reviews of recently published poetry collections. However, they ask authors to query before submitting reviews.

THINK Journal is housed at Western Colorado University.

How to Submit to THINK Journal

Here’s what you need to know before sending in your manuscript:

  • The deadline to submit is December 31, 2020.
  • Poets may submit up to five poems or one long poem.
  • Prose authors may submit one piece (and that goes for stories, essays, screenplays, excerpts, articles, and reviews).

THINK Journal accepts submissions online, not via email or by post. They accept simultaneous submissions but ask authors to withdraw their work if it has been published elsewhere. They do not accept previously published work.

If you would like to learn more or submit, please visit their website here.

Good luck to all of you who choose to submit. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you.

And if you are accepted, please let me know! I’d love to read your work and pass it along to a friend.
